| INTRODUCTION: |
| Mount Athos is the easternmost peninsula of the Chalkidiki prefecture, with verdant mountains and leeward gulfs, untrodden landscape, and wild natural beauty. Mount Athos is an independent monastic state with numerous monasteries full of exquisite treasures. The monasteries were built during the Byzantine era, and this is why the region is called Agion Oros ( Holy Mountain ). Women are not allowed to visit Mount Athos. |

In Nea Roda, the Isthmus of Xerxis and Ancient Ouranides.
In Ouranoupolis, the Proforiou Tower and the Frangokastro Castle.
In Ierissos, the ruins of the castle and the byzantine church, the Tower of Krouna and the remains of the hellenistic building.

The monasteries are full of important treasures, which are kept in special chambers, libraries and museums. The monasteries also include mills, workshops, guest rooms, churches, olive presses, exterior mains, shipyards and other architectural monuments.

BY FERRY BOAT:
From Ierissos, there is 1 boat daily during the summer and 3 boats daily during the winter to NE and the SE side. The voyage takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes.
From Ouranoupoli, there is 1 boat daily all year round to the monasteries of the W side. The voyage takes approximately 2 hours and 35 minutes.
You can also charter a boat and visit the Mount Athos.
