Major Towns / Cities / Villages in Ios Greece

Ios Town
It is one of the most impressive Cycladic capitals, amphitheatrically built on a hill, overlooking the Aegean sea. It combines all features of traditional Cycladic architecture and provides exciting nightlife, great food and good hotels.

Manganari, Ios
Lying in the south of the island, Manganari is known for its magnificent sandy beaches, with turquoise waters, where scenes of the film “Big Blue” where shot. This beautiful settlement is ideal for a more relaxing vacation in Ios away from the crowds.

Mylopotas, Ios
At the beautiful cove of Mylopotas with the lovely beach lies the homonymous seaside settlement. It is a rather lively tourist resort to spend your holidays at, as it attracts young people from all over the world.

Ormos (Gialos), Ios
It is the port of Ios Island lying close to Chora. There are nice nearby beaches to swim at, while from Ormos you may take a cruise boat for a trip to other beaches in the northern part of the island, such as Diamoudia.

Agia Theodoti, Ios
Agia Theodoti is a settlement lying in the northeastern part of the island with an extensive beach. Nature lovers can take the path from the old settlement of Agia Theodoti leading to Gefyri, through a lovely forest of platans.

Transportation to Ios Greece

  • By ferry:
    Ferries to Ios Island depart from the port of Piraeus as well as the port of Rafina. The trip takes from 5 to 7 hours depending on the type of vessel you select.
  • By plane:
    There is not an airport on Ios Island. However, you may travel by plane to Naxos or Santorini from Athens or abroad, and then take the ferry to Ios from there.
